Liverpool's planned move for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is likely to see Arsenal miss out on Porto hitman Jackson Martinez.
Argentina international Higuain is reportedly unsettled at the Serie A side as the pressure mounts on Rafa Benitez following a poor run of form, and Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the ex-Real Madrid forward to Anfield in a deal worth over £30million.
Despite interest from Chelsea, who secured the signature of Diego Costa from Atletico over the summer, Liverpool will push through a deal.
Rodgers moved to sign Southampton's Rickie Lambert and AC Milan's Mario Balotelli during the transfer window but is still searching for more firepower after an indifferent start to the Premier League season.
However, reports in Italy claim that Napoli have already lined up a replacement for Higuain in Colombia star Martinez, who is wanted by Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners boss is believed to have made a deadline day enquiry for the powerful targetman, and is still keen on signing him despite landing Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.
However, the offer of first-team football from Napoli, as well as a lucrative contract funded by the departure of Higuain, could tempt Martinez to snub a move to the Emirates.
