Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are all on alert after Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld was offered to Napoli by Soren Lerby.
Alderweireld moved to Atletico Madrid in the summer after also being heavily linked with the Premier League trio.
But it seems the 24-year-old's £6m move to Spain from Ajax has not worked out as expected, and Lerby now appears to be working on a possible exit strategy for the player.
Alderweireld has played in just 10 of Atletico's 30 matches since making the move and recently expressed his dissatisfaction at the situation.
He said: "I miss Ajax, their style of play, my ex-teammates at Atleti, I can't be happy if I'm not playing.
"The team is doing well and I continue to fight for my place, but I don't think it's my fault."
Indeed, reports in Italy suggest that Lerby, who is the agent of Napoli's Dries Mertens has contacted the Serie A club to see if they would be interested in Alderweireld.
It is unclear whether a centre defender is on Rafa Benitez's January wish-list but should Napoli pass, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham could all rekindle their interest in Alderweireld.
Alderweireld played the most minutes for the Belgian national side during their qualification for the World Cup but is now keen to expedite a move to boost his chances of remaining a key player for his country in Brazil.
