Christian Eriksen is stalling over a new contract at Ajax amid reported interest from Liverpool.
Denmark international Eriksen, who turns 21 this month, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League for many months, with a number of top European clubs also having reportedly expressed an interest.
Liverpool would appear to be leading the race and are said to be readying a bid for the summer.
Ajax technical director Marc Overmars has confirmed Eriksen has declined to sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2014, as he is considering his future with the Eredivisie giants.
"Christian has informed us that he doesn't want to sign a new contract right now," Overmars told sporten.dk. "I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer."
He added: "We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves us, he will be ready to play for the very best. He's a player even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad."
Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots, said in BNB: "Anything Marc or Christian have said about it is correct, but we've agreed that we don't want to talk about the speculation too much. Christian wants to focus solely on football and not so much on his future."
In October, Eriksen had said he was flattered by links with Liverpool but remained focused on Ajax.
Sporten.dk adds that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also considering a move for Eriksen, but Manchester United's interest has cooled.
