Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni says he turned down a move to Liverpool because he was facing a big pay cut.
The Reds were keen to bring the 31-year-old Brazilian shot-stopper in as back-up to Pepe Reina.
"I have only received an official offer from Liverpool but I could not accept those conditions," he said.
"I would have had my salary cut by 60%. After signing a five-year contract extension with Roma in 2008 and having given a knee for Roma's cause, I am unwilling to give away money."
Reina has rubbished rumours he could make the switch to Atletico Madrid, who are selling first choice keeper David de Gea to Manchester United.
"I know Atletico are looking for a goalkeeper, but I won't be changing colours," he said.
"I have a five-year contract and I'm happy at Liverpool."
Meanwhile, Algerian midfielder Ryad Boudebouz claims Liverpool are interested in signing him from French club Sochaux.
"Liverpool are a big club and there has been contact," he said.
"But I have to take my time, see the (Sochaux) president, discuss things through.
"If there's a big money offer, perhaps it will be impossible to say no."
