Liverpool's hopes of signing long-term target Christian Atsu have been boosted after he turned down the offer of a new deal with Porto.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the highly-rated 21-year-old since last summer after being impressed with his performances while on loan at Rio Ave in 2011-12.
However, Porto held on to Atsu and, while he played a small part in the side's march to the Portuguese title in the past season, it seems the Ghana international is ready to move on and test his abilities in a different country, with England his preferred choice.
Atsu has confirmed that Porto did offer him a new contract but he will not be signing because he wants to find a new club before the start of next season.
He said: "I spoke with Porto before coming to this decision and informed them that I will not sign a new contract. The club told me what they want to do, and hopefully we can find a solution now.
"My dream is to play in England and it is very nice to see my name linked with big clubs in the Premier League. For now, I'm focused on my football, but I see my future in England."
It is being reported that Rodgers could now launch a £7million bid to try and entice Atsu to Anfield ahead of Premier League rivals Tottenham.
