Liverpool have been linked with a move for former midfielder Javier Mascherano, who is expected to leave Barcelona this summer.
The Argentina international left Liverpool for Camp Nou in 2010 but is expected to move on again.
Mascherano has indicated he will leave the Spanish giants in the summer ahead of their La Liga title decider with Atletico Madrid this weekend.
He told reporters: "It's great what we've got coming up this week and over the weekend.
"For some of us, it may be our last game at the club, so it will be a very nice way to say goodbye."
Catalan newspaper Sport have now claimed Liverpool are keen to re-sign the versatile 29-year-old this summer.
Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his defensive options and Mascherano has been used largely as a centre-half by Barcelona this season.
However, the Reds will face competition from Italian side Napoli but the report claims Mascherano is keen on a move back to Anfield.
Napoli are currently managed by Rafael Benitez, who signed Mascherano for Liverpool in 2007 during his time as manager of the club.
