Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri is reportedly being lined up by Liverpool as an alternative to Chelsea-bound Mohamed Salah.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was looking to snap up Swiss outfit FC Basel's Egyptian star Salah before the transfer window slams shut next Friday night, but Chelsea launched a counter-bid and appear to have secured his signature in a reported £12million deal.
It leaves the Northern Irishman still searching to bolster his squad at Anfield as the Reds are in a great position to end their four-year exile from Champions League football this term.
And 22-year-old Switzerland international, Shaqiri, is thought to be the man in Rodgers' sights as the player has struggled for first-team action at the Allianz Arena under both current coach Pep Guardiola and former boss Jupp Heynckes.
Shaqiri would no doubt relish a move to Anfield, where he would have a greater chance of playing regular football in the build-up to the summer's World Cup in Brazil.
But Guardiola will possibly want to keep the player on board to keep the Bayern squad strong as he looks to emulate last season's Treble success with the German Bundesliga giants.
