Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Serie A after Fiorentina offered to take the Liverpool midfielder on a season-long loan.
The Italy playmaker was recently praised by Liverpool owner John W Henry after his performance in a 6-3 win over Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
However, Liverpool have a surfeit of midfielders and Aquilani flew to Florence for talks.
Franco Zavaglia, the player's agent, said: "Aquilani is still a Liverpool player. However, we have to understand what the project is there and speak with them.
"After we will evaluate things. I don't know if there is an agreement already between the two clubs."
Aquilani could be followed out of Anfield by David Ngog after Bolton contacted Liverpool over the French striker, though the clubs disagree on his valuation.
Wanderers expect to tie up deals for Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears after Burnley accepted a £2.8million joint bid for the pair, who were left out of Saturday's friendly against Torquay.
Bolton boss Owen Coyle also wants free agent Nigel Reo-Coker - who is also a target for Leicester - and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha.
