Alberto Aquilani insists he will return to Liverpool with "great enthusiasm" after failing to secure a permanent move to Juventus.
Aquilani, who turns 27 next month, was signed by Rafael Benitez in 2009 following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, but he struggled with injury problems and was allowed to join Juve on a season-long loan last summer.
It had been expected that the deal would be made permanent, but Juve failed in their attempts to lower the pre-agreed purchase clause and it appears Aquilani - who had been keen to remain in Turin - may now be given another chance to prove his worth at Anfield.
"I return to Liverpool with great enthusiasm," Aquilani told Sky Italia. "This is not a problem. It's not true that I didn't want to return to England."
Kenny Dalglish had earlier claimed he would be happy to see Aquilani back at Liverpool.
"When people talk about next season, I'm surprised they don't give Alberto a mention," Dalglish said on the club's official website in April. "Everyone seems to have forgotten about him.
"I know he has done really well at Juventus this season. When the loan finishes at the end of the season, he reverts back to being a Liverpool player.
"Nothing is cast in stone and he could be coming back to play for Liverpool. He could be a valuable asset here next season. He's still our player."
