Alberto Aquilani is ready to join AC Milan if Juventus decide not to buy him.
The Italian midfielder, who failed to settle on Merseyside, spent the whole of last season on loan at Juve and was expected to make the move permanent this summer.
It was reported that the two sides agreed an eventual fee of £14m for the 26-year-old at the end of the loan, but the Serie A side have since refused to pay such a high price.
And, according to reports in Italy, Juve's interest in Aquilani has waned since the arrival of fellow central midfielder Andrea Pirlo last month, while they are also understood to be plotting a move for Udinese's Gokhan Inler.
But Aquilani is desperate to stay in Italy on a permanent basis and reports in Italy have revealed that AC Milan have been in touch with Liverpool about signing him should his proposed move to Juve fall through.
The midfielder wants to nail down his place in the Italy squad in time for next summer's European Championship finals and thinks his form could suffer should he decide to return to the Premier League.
