Liverpool's visit to Australia for a pre-season friendly with Melbourne Victory will provide a significant boost to the profile of the sport in the country, according to Kyle Patterson of the Football Federation Australia.
The Reds face the A-League side at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 24 as part of their summer tour presented by Standard Chartered - which also includes fixtures in Indonesia and Thailand.
"It's a sign that the football economy is taking off in Australia," said Patterson, head of corporate affairs and communications at the FFA.
"The visits of Manchester United and Liverpool mean football can own the sports media landscape for a week. This is unprecedented and presents a massive opportunity for the A-League.
"This is the fastest growing football region in the world and the visits of Manchester United and Liverpool are just a little snap shot of the very exciting developments."
