Lee Jones was signed by Graeme Souness from Wrexham and was a prolific scorer for the reserve team under Sammy Lee.

First team chances were at a premium, especially after the emergence of Robbie Fowler and he still managed to score a number of goals for the youth team and for the reserves at Liverpool despite breaking his leg twice.

He was loaned out back to Wrexham in 1995/96, scoring 8 goals in 20 games. He was a regular feature on the bench for the first half of the 1996/97 season before being sold to Tranmere with whom he had a successful spell under Kop idol John Aldridge.
