Scales arrived at Anfield in the Autumn of 1994 as part of Roy Evans' defensive overhaul.

The former Wimbledon centre back enjoyed a promising start to life on Merseyside, looking solid as part of a five-man defence that included another big money recruit, Phil Babb.

However, after looking solid in his first season with the Reds he began to dip in form and would never recapture the standard of his early promise. 

Persistent injury would see him make just seven appearances in the 96-97 campaign before he was sold to Tottenham.
