Haigh was a Yorkshireman who signed for Liverpool in October 1949 when he was 21 years old.

He had to wait until Boxing Day 1950 before being given his league debut when Blackpool visited Anfield for a First Division fixture. Haigh scored in the next match (a 2-1 victory at Derby County) and hit the net three times in the eight matches for which he was selected during the second-half of the 1950-51 season.

He made three further appearances towards the end of the 1951-52 season without adding to his goals total. He was transferred to Scunthorpe before the start of the following season. He's a legend at Scunthorpe, playing 329 league games and scoring 65 goals.
