Gareth Roberts was a left back who didn't make the first team breakthrough at Anfield.

Ronnie Whelan brought left-back Gareth Roberts to Greece from Liverpool as a youngster, but he had a very short spell there.

He hurried back home to Liverpool and made a name for himself across the Mersey with Tranmere Rovers under the management of Kop hero John Aldridge. After 269 league games in seven years he moved to another Rovers in Doncaster and been a regular there as well.

Roberts never made a first team appearance at Liverpool.
