Liverpool-born Fred Tomley signed for his home-town club in September 1953 and made two League appearances for the Reds in consecutive games against Bury and Lincoln City in March 1955. He was transferred to Chester in July of the same year but the towering defender didn't make it at Chester either and went into amateur football.
