Right-back Shepherd made his debut for Liverpool at full-back on the opening day of the 1948-49 league season and only missed one of the 42 league matches played that year.

It was a superb start to his Reds career, but unfortunately for Shepherd, it wouldn't last and he only managed to appear in six matches the following campaign.

He had lost his place in the side to Eddie Spicer and his Liverpool career spanned just seven matches over the course of the next two seasons.

His final match for Liverpool came at home to Blackpool on Christmas Day, 1951.
